The Colorado Advantage

Four Pillars of Fellowship Excellence

Our fellowship is structurally designed to balance operative mastery, sideline emergency decision-making, clinical research productivity, and lifelong academic leadership.

High-Volume Operative Autonomy

Graduated surgical responsibility across tertiary academic medical centers and ambulatory surgery centers. Fellows master primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty (3D navigated), Latarjet coracoid transfers, multi-ligament knee reconstructions, and biologic cartilage restoration.

Elite Sideline & Pro Sports Coverage

Serve as associate team physicians for the NHL Colorado Avalanche, NBA Denver Nuggets, CU Buffaloes (NCAA Big 12), and DU Pioneers. Gain direct sideline management skills for acute joint dislocations, on-ice lacerations, and high-stakes concussion triage.

Protected Academic & Research Time

Dedicated half-day weekly protected research time backed by full-time departmental biostatisticians and multicenter registries (MOON, MARS). Fellows average 3-5 published manuscripts and national podium presentations per year.

Hands-On Cadaveric Bioskills Lab

Regular evening cadaveric bioskills sessions in the Anschutz Center for Surgical Innovation (CSI). Practice complex open Latarjet procedures, meniscal allograft transplantations, osteotomies, and reverse total shoulders with 1-on-1 faculty coaching.
